Faculty in the mathematics education group include Margaret Kinzel, Thomas Kinzel, Laurie Cavey, Sasha Wang, Joe Champion, Jennifer Buchholz, and Brinley Stringer. The group supports Math Outreach, partners with K-12 schools, and conducts research broadly focused on student learning, instruction, and mathematics teacher education.
Recent mathematics education faculty projects have focused on:
- K-12 professional development for in-service math teachers
- Preservice math teachers’ reflective practice
- Instructional practices that enhance students’ sense of belonging in early STEM coursework
- Transitions between high school and undergraduate mathematics
- Undergraduate advising and program development in mathematics
The department offers mathematics education emphasis options in the bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and the Master of Science in Mathematics programs.
