Professional development courses for educators are offered throughout Idaho. Course fees are different from credit fees and, in some cases, are paid separately.
It is your responsibility to verify that your district and State Department of Education accepts Boise State Professional Development credits for recertification and/or pay scale movement before you register for a class. We cannot issue refunds after your grade has been finalized. If you have questions about course content or deadlines, please contact the host organization directly.

Course Description:
In this course, K-12 educators and art parents will learn how and why the Arts are essential to child development, how to advocate for the Arts in schools, and how to integrate art into lessons to increase engagement and support learning in tangible ways. Several art mediums will be introduced in the course, giving art facilitators a better understanding of readily available materials and a variety of methods for practice. Lesson plan development will also be covered, along with long-term support systems. Previous experience in the Arts is not required. While visual art will be our primary focus, discussions will include possibilities in visual arts, dance, theater arts, and music.

In today’s digital age, storytelling has evolved beyond traditional formats and is embedded in every aspect of our day. This immersive workshop invites educators, librarians, and learning coaches to explore visual storytelling through the lens of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Learn to develop highly-engaging lessons that blend creativity, technology, and critical thinking and meet Idaho standards.
Participants will engage in a series of guided activities centered around storytelling in STEM. Learn how to leverage visual storytelling as an integral part of supporting learner confidence in STEM topics while also supporting standards in writing, reading, and listening. Lessons from this workshop will help learners of all ages identify and analyze different components of storytelling in media, as well as in data and text.

Course Description:
Discover the wonder of microelectronics and semiconductors through this in-depth training on the Chip, Chip, Hooray course created in partnership with Idaho Digital Learning Alliance and Boise State University. This course delves into what semiconductors are, their importance in modern society, and connects students with career opportunities. Educators will leave understanding the principles of semiconductors, attain skills in best teaching practices, with a fully prepped curriculum, and a class set of kits to conduct experiments and activities.
For educators traveling from outside the Treasure Valley, travel and lodging expenses will also be provided.

Course Description:
Welcome to the Developing Number: Counting Collections and Routines module. This module examines the complexity of learning to count numbers as a fundamental aspect of early mathematics. During this module, teachers will see how counting supports foundational ideas about number development, including number decomposition and composition, number relationships and patterns, and the base 10 structure of the number system. Counting routines and activities provide K-2 students with rich experiences that support the conceptual learning of the number system, extending to algebraic ideas and number operations.

Course Description:
This workshop offers a deep dive into Challenge Based Learning (CBL), a framework for learning that empowers students to engage in real-world problem-solving. Participants will explore the core principles of CBL, learn practical strategies for implementing CBL in their own classrooms or organizations, and gain hands-on experience designing and facilitating CBL projects.
Workshop attendees will experience a series of short, choice-based challenges that build creative problem-solving skills and teamwork. Then, participants will deconstruct a challenge and learn to design a high-impact experience for learners through the lens of the Challenge Based Learning framework.
