Boise State Overwatch Claims PEC Crown with Sweep over Syracuse at Allied Esports Championship

Las Vegas, NV — April 5, 2025

Under the lights of the HyperX Esports Arena at the Luxor, Boise State Overwatch capped off its historic 2025 season with a PEC championship performance on one of the biggest stages in collegiate esports.

In the Allied Esports PEC Championship Grand Final, the Broncos delivered a 3–0 sweep over a fiery Syracuse squad, claiming their second major title of the year after previously winning the Mountain West. The victory was made even sweeter by the recognition that came just before the match, as Boise State head coach Doc Haskell was officially named the 2025 PEC Overwatch Coach of the Year.

“There’s no one more deserving,” said Bryce Jensen. “Doc’s fingerprints are on every success this team has had.”

From first fight to final cart tick, Boise played with the confidence of a team that had been here before—and the discipline of one that plans to stay.

Map 1 – Lijiang Tower: Night Market Nerves, Control Center Clutch

Syracuse, fresh off a strong lower bracket run, came out swinging on Night Market. But Boise State, led by a diving Styder (Cannon Miller), struck first, eliminating Emi (Emiliano Franco) and setting up early point control.

The Orange answered with a critical boop from M3 (Max Peters), flipping control and applying pressure behind clean play from Ayzer (Harris Levinson) and Speedglasses (Steve Lin). Despite the back-and-forth, Maksal (Mark Thanakomsirichot) punished tight corridors with a decisive barrage, swinging the momentum.

“You win first fight on Night Market, and you control the pace. Boise flipped that script fast.”

On Control Center, Boise pulled out a creative Symmetra look, catching Syracuse off guard with teleporter rotations and turret spam. Strider’s Ramattra controlled the front line, while Clear (Jonathan Foraker) and Hex (Will Hess) hunted in the back.

“Syracuse had answers early, but Boise just TP’d straight into their rhythm,” said Nathan Ballay.

A final teamwipe sealed the round—and with their winner’s bracket advantage, Boise went up 2–0 in the series.

Map 2 – King’s Row: A Classic Turned Clinic

Syracuse counterpicked with King’s Row, favoring a strong Orisa brawl led by Lunar (Lucas Stollman) and Saint (Jackson Phillips) on Ana. But Boise, despite a Wrecking Ball ban, brought the heat with Strider swapping to Rammatra and Hex anchoring support.

Clear and Maksal executed perfect staggered dives, blowing open Point A. Though Syracuse’s Lunar landed a powerful Terra Surge, Boise’s layered ult usage and clean peel allowed them to sweep through all three points.

“Even when Syracuse engaged first, Boise’s counterpunch was devastating,” said Nathan Ballay.

On defense, Boise stonewalled Syracuse’s second phase. A clutch nano-blade from Ayzer found success, but Clear’s relentless Tracer presence chipped away at supports, and Maxel’s Widowmaker swap closed out critical picks.

Map 3 – Watchpoint Wrath: Clean Finish in Vegas

With the title in reach, Boise State kept their foot on the gas. Syracuse opened with a double sniper setup—Speedglasses on Widowmaker, Ayzer on Hanzo—but Boise denied early sightlines with disciplined cover and counter angles.

On offense, Clear kept pressure high with Tracer, diving past shields while Strider soaked up damage on the frontline. A well-timed nano from Lyric (Carter Jones) helped Boise close the final fight in style.

“This team doesn’t just win—they adapt, evolve, and end it fast,” said Bryce Jensen.
